Records. Records of examinations and tests performed by or for the contractor shall be maintained by the contractor and made available to the Government upon the Government’s request, at any time, or from time to time, during the performance of the contract and for a period of three years after delivery of the supplies to which such records relate.
Inspection. Inspection, as used herein, is defined as both examination (such as visual or auditory investigation without the use of special laboratory appliances or procedures) and testing (determination by technical means of physical and chemical properties) of the item.
Sampling for tests. One pillow cover shall be randomly selected for testing from each lot of 200, or less, pillow covers offered to the government. If the pillow cover fails to meet the requirements of this specification, ten more pillow covers shall be selected from the lot for testing. If one or more of the ten pillow cover fails, the lot shall be rejected. Tests shall be conducted in accordance with this document.
Tests. Tests shall be conducted to determine compliance with specification requirements. Where feasible, the same sample shall be used for the determination of two or more test characteristics. Each unit selected according to the sampling plan shall be tested, and a failure of two or more units, according to the sampling plans, shall be cause for rejection of the entire lot.
Heat sealed seam strength test. The bond strength of the heat sealed seams shall be determined as specified in ASTM D-882, except that tests shall be performed on one seam per cover. The seam specimen to be tested shall be one inch wide and shall be cut from any point along the seam. For breaking (bonding) strength of the bonded seam, the seam shall be at the center of the specimen and perpendicular to the center line. The free ends of the specimen shall be gripped (one in each jaw) in the testing machine. A bond strength less than 65 percent of the tensile strength of the sheeting shall constitute a failure.
