Medical Marking, if required.
Marking shall be approximately 1/8 inch (0.3 cm) in height (except for the “U.S.” and caduceus which shall be 3/16 to 1/2 inch (5 to 13 mm) in height) and shall be positioned on the top hem, in one corner of the sheet. When required for medical procurement, each sheet shall be marked on the hem, near the other marking, with a caduceus of appropriate size centered between the letters “U” and “S”. Marking, except for medical procurement, may be printed on the sheet or provided on a sewn in label. Marking for medical procurement shall be printed on the sheet. All markings shall meet the same colorfastness requirements specified in ASTM D 5431.
3.8 Workmanship. The bed sheet shall function for the purpose intended. No defects affecting appearance or serviceability shall be permitted. The fabric shall be free from any defects such as holes, tears, misweaves, spots, stains, streaks, broken or missing yarn, yarn count not as specified, fiber content not as specified, selvage not as specified, color not as specified, or objectionable odor. The finished sheet shall be free of any defects such as dimensions not as specified, sheet made of multiple pieces of fabric, thread not as specified, loose stitches, tight stitches, skipped stitches, hem not as specified, raw edges, unstitched area on hem, end of stitching not secured, needle chew, or mend.
3.9 Measurement system. The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The metric values stated in parentheses are for information purposes only.
3.10 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within the tolerances specified and all other requirements of this commercial item description are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
3.11 Commercial item. The use of the term “commercial item description” in this document does not imply that any item or items offered are not required to conform with all requirements specified herein.
4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
