3.2 Fabric. The fabric shall meet the performance requirements for durable press muslin or percale, all-cotton or polyester/cotton blend, non-flannel, woven sheeting as defined in ASTM D 5431. The fabric shall meet the durable press dimensional change requirements defined in ASTM D 5431 when tested in accordance with AATCC 96 wash method Vc and drying method D. The fabric shall be bleached white or dyed as specified (see 7.3)
For medical use or when otherwise specified, the sheet shall be a 50% polyester/50% cotton blend, 128 muslin count (68 ends, 60 picks) or 180 percale count (74 minimum count in one direction) (see 7.3). For medical use the sheet shall be dyed gray-green, FED-STD-595B shade 34148.
3.3 Fabrication. The design and construction of the sheet shall include all materials and processes necessary to produce a functional, durable, attractive finished bed sheet meeting, as a minimum, the requirements stated in this commercial item description. Each sheet shall be made from one piece of fabric and shall have four square cut corners. The edges of the sheet may be straight and uniform in width. Hems shall be sewn so that no raw edges, run offs, twists, pleats, puckers, or open seams result. Stitches and stitch tension shall be uniform. Ends of stitching shall be secured to prevent hems opening and unraveling during laundering.
3.4 Thread. Thread color shall match the color of the cloth. When specified, to identify polyester/cotton blend fiber content, the color of the thread used to sew the top and bottom hems shall be orange, FED-STD-595B shade 22510 (see 7.3).
3.5 Fiber identification. Each sheet shall be labeled for fiber content in accordance with the Rules and Regulations cited under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act.
3.6 Care label. A permanent care label, in accordance with ASTM d 395B, shall be attached to each sheet using characters approximately 1/8 inch (0.3 m) high. The marking shall be printed on the sheet or provided on a sewn in label. All marking shall meet the same colorfastness requirements specified in ASTM D 5431.
3.7.1 Special Marking. When specified (see 7.3), sheets shall be marked with the following information.
