printed information can be easily read. The bag shall be formed with heat sealed seams that are straight, continuous, and parallel to each other and the formed edges of the bag. The final closure of the bag shall be heat sealed with the heat seal made as close as possible to the open end. Open vents of approximately 1 inch at each side of the closure or a 1/2 hole in each of the opposite corners of the bag shall be provided for the escape of excess air. Alternatively, the final closure of the bag shall be accomplished by folding over and securing the open end to the bag with pressure-sensitive tape.
4.2 Packing. Ten pillows of like description, packaged as specified 4.1, shall be packed in a fiberboard shipping container conforming to style FTC, type CF (variety SW) or SF, class domestic, grade 275 of PPP-B-636. Pillows shall be packed flat, two in length and five in depth, within a shipping container. Inside dimensions of each shipping container shall be 40 inches in length, 26 pillows. Each with the appendix of PPP-B-636, except that the strapping shall be applied three girthwise and one lengthwise.
4.3 Palletization. When specified (see 5.2), pillows, packed as specified, shall be palletized in accordance with MIL-STD-147.
4.4 Marking. In addition to any special marking required by the contract or purchase order, unit packs, shipping containers and palletized unit loads shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129.
5. NOTES
5.1 Intended use. The pillows are primarily intended for use by the United States Government.
5.2 Ordering data. Acquisition documents must specify the following:
a. Title, number, and date of this document.
b. Color of ticking required (see 2.1).
c. When palletization is required (see 4.3).
