twill weave suitable for durable cushions and having a minimum of 50% cotton content. The knitted mesh cloth shall be polyester and paper tissue clear coated with durable synthetic resin and shall be a combination of light and dark colors in a single design. The woven and knitted mesh cloths shall meet the physical requirements in Table II and shall show good colorfastness to perspiration when tested in accordance with AATCC 15, Colorfastness to Perspiration.

3.1.3 Welting. The welting shall be vinyl extruded lipped welting.
3.1.4 Sewing thread. The cushion cover shall be sewn with a spun thread of a type accepted within industry for this purpose, Thread color shall match the woven cloth.
3.2 Cushion shape. Style A cushions shall be circular. Style B cushions shall be rectangular with front corners rounded to a radius of 1.5 + 0.5 inch (38.1 + 12.7 mm) and back corners rounded to a radius of 4 + 0.5 inch (101.6 + 12.7 mm).
3.3 Cushion Construction. The cushion insert shall be enclosed completely by the cushion cover. All seams shall be uniform and sewn with sufficient stitches per inch to produce seams that do not slip or pull out. The cover shall be sewn from the inside except that the seam at the back of the cushion cover may be sewn from the outside to allow the cushion insert to be enclosed. No raw edges shall show on the outside of the finished cushion cover. Ends of all stitching not caught in other stitching and all thread breaks shall be secured.
3.3.1 Box-edged cushion cover. Class 1, style B, size 4 or 5 cushions shall be box-edged. One surface and the boxed edges of cushions shall be made from woven cloth and shall be the same color. The reverse surface of the cushion cover shall be made from knitted mesh cloth (see in 3.1.2.). The base color of the knitted cloth shall match the woven cloth. No raw edges shall show where the boxing is joined. The seams shall be finished with welting (see 3.1.3) extending around the entire perimeter of the top and bottom surfaces of the cushion cover. The welting shall be white or shall match the color of the cloth.
3.3.2 Flat-edged cushion cover. Class 2, style A or B, size 1, 2 or 3 cushions shall be flat at the edge(s) and shall be made from two pieces of woven cloth (see 3.1.2).
3.3.2.1 Straps for flat-edged circular cushion. Class 2, style A, size 1 (circular) cushion shall have four straps of the same cloth and color as the cover securely attached to the seam at four equidistant points. The straps shall be 10 to 13 inches (25.4 to 33.0 cm) long and 1 f 1/8 inch (2.5 + 0.5 cm) wide. The straps shall be stitched lengthwise with the cut edges folded to the inside and the free ends hemmed or folded to the inside.
3.4 Fit and appearance. The finished cushion cover shall fit smoothly over all parts of the cushion insert. The cover shall not be pulled so tightly that the fabric shows evidence of strain or that stitches break or pull loose. The cushion cover shall fit so that the cushion is free to spread.
3.5 Fiber identification. Each cushion cover shall be labeled, ticketed, or invoiced for fiber content in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act.
3.6 Label. Each cushion shall have a label attached conforming to the legal requirements of the state of manufacture. The label shall be at the back edge (the edge closed from the outside) of the cushion cover. The National Stock Number (NSN) shall be on each label.
3.7 Workmanship. The finished cushion shall conform to the quality of product established by this commercial item description and shall function as a comfortable, durable cushion appropriate for office use. The finished cushion shall be clean; and free from objectionable odor, any cut, hole, tear, mend, or other fabric defect; any missing component; any distortion or twisting of any component; any soil, dirt, spot, stain, burn, or needle chew; any puckered, twisted, pleated or uneven seam; any stitches not secure or uniform; loose stitch tension resulting in a loose seam; thread breaks when normal strain is applied; any raw edge of any length; any part assembled on the bias or parts not aligned; loose or uneven piping; or corner radii not as specified. The finished cushion cover shall fit the cushion insert smoothly. No defects affecting function, appearance or serviceability shall be permitted.
