COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CUSHION, CHAIR AND STOOL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID), for all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE.
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers requirements for chair and stool cushions consisting of foam inserts inside cloth covers and intended for office use.
2. CLASSIFICATION.
2.1 Classification. The cushions shall be of the following class, style, color, and size (Table l), as specified (see 7.3).
Class 1- Box edged cushion with woven cloth on one side and the box edge of the cushion and knitted mesh cloth on the reverse side.
Class 2- Flat edged cushion with woven cloth cover.
Style A - Circular
Style B - Rectangular
Color a - Dark brown
Color b - Green

1/ A tolerance of *1/4 inch (6.4 mm) shall be permitted.
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Materials.
3.1.1 Cushion inserts. The cushion inserts shall be made of urethane foam or bonded urethane foam. The urethane foam shall be in accordance with ASTM D 3453, Flexible Cellular Materials - Urethane for Furniture and Automotive Cushioning, Bedding, and Similar Applications, grade number 34 or 44 (English units) and shall have a minimum polymer density of 1.6 lb/ft3 (25.6 kg/m3). The bonded urethane foam shall be in accordance with ASTM D 3490, Flexible Cellular Materials - Bonded Urethane Foam, grade UBU 42 or UBU ‘ 60 and shall have a density of not less than 4,5 lb/ft3 (721 kg/m3) and not greater than 6.5 lb/ff (104.1 kg/m3). The individual shredded cellular urethane particles of which the material is composed shall not exceed 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) in diameter,
3.1.2 Cushion cover cloths. The cushion covers shall be made of woven cloth or a combination of woven cloth and knitted mesh cloth (see Table 11). The woven cloth shall be a cotton and polyester blend brushed
