COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

PILLOWCASE AND COVER, HEADREST (DISPOSABLE)

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for all Federal Agencies.

1. SCOPE

1.1 Scope.           This commercial item description covers disposable nonwoven pillowcase and headrest covers intended for one-time use and not suitable for laudering.

2. CLASSIFICATION

2.1 Classification.              The pillowcase or headrest cover shall be of the following style and sizes, as specified:

Style I – Pillowcase

Size 1 – 12.0-0, ‘0.5 inches (30.5-0, +1.3 cm) wide by

17.0-0, + 0.75 inches (43.2-0, +1.9 cm) long

Size 2 – 21.0-0, + 0.5 inches (53.3-0, + 1.3 cm) wide by

30.0-0, + 0.75 inches (76.2-0, + 1.3 cm) long

Style II – Headrest cover

Size 3 – 19.0-0 + 0.75 inches (48.1-0, + 1.9 cm) wide by

12.5-0, +0.5 inches (31.8-0, +1.3 cm) high

The dimensions are inside (between seams) dimensions.

3.            SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.

3.1 Fabric.            The nonwoven fabric shall be white, shall feel soft to the skin, and shall have no adverse effect on the skin of personnel when used. The fabric shall be made from fully bleached cellulose, polyester, rayon, or nylon fibers, or mixtures of these: shall have a minimum weight of 1.0 oz/yd² (33.9 g/m²) when tested in accordance with ASTM D 3776; and shall exhibit no blocking when tested in accordance with FED-STD-191, Test Method 5872.

The fabric shall have a minimum dry bursting strength of 12.0 psi (82.7kPa) when tested in accordance with ASTM D 3786, and a minimum wet breaking strength, each direction, of 1.0 lbf (4.45 N) when tested in accordance with ASTM D 5034, grab test procedure.

3.2          Flammability.     The pillowcases and headrest covers shall pass the requirements of FAA, Department of Transportation Flammability Standard No. 25.853(B).
