2.1.5 Coatings. As an alternate to the primer and enamel, the crossbar and upright may be
coated with a commercial epoxy coating.
2.2 Finish
2.2.1 Clamps. The clamp assembly shall be thoroughly cleaned and electro-zinc plated and
chromated in accordance with type II, service condition-3 of ASTM B-633.
2.2.2 Rods. All rod surfaces shall be prepared for painting by any suitable commercial
method. The prepared rod surfaces shall be given one coat of primer and thoroughly dried
prior to application of the enamel. The primed surfaces of the insect bar rod shall be coated
with enamel and baked.
2.3 Marking. The letters "U.S." and the manufacturer's identification shall be indented prior
to finishing on each clamp assembly, crossbar, and upright.
2.4 Instruction sheet. An instruction sheet illustrating the methods of mounting the insect bar
clamps on various types of beds shall be packed with each box of clamps. See Figure 4.
3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use
recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403
of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this
commercial item description, conform to the producer's own drawings, specifications,
standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the
commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such
conformance.
4.2 Visual examination. Each rod and clamp assembly shall be examined for the defects
listed below.
4.2.1 Defects. Enameled or epoxy coating not finished, wrong color, area of no film, or not
smooth, uniform, or adherent; surfaces not plated, not uniformly plated, area of no plating, or
dirt or foreign matter imbedded; any inoperative functioning component; any ring missing or
not as specified; any component missing; component not in proper alignment, broken,
fractured, or split; any sharp edge, burr, or sliver; any corners on clamp not rounded as
indicated; hole not the proper size; any end of bar not chamfered as required; any sharp
corners not broken or rounded where required; marking missing, incorrect, or illegible;
dimensions of item not as specified; any items not packaged in accordance with the contract
or purchase order.
4.3 Acceptance criteria. Acceptance criteria shall be as specified in the contract or purchase
order.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Preservation, packing, and marking. The preservation, packing, and marking shall be as
specified in the contract or order.
