COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TOWEL, HAND, GREEN, HUCK, COTTON
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification DDD-T-531.
This commercial item description covers a vat dyed grayish-green, hand towel of cotton buck cloth suitable for use in surgical procedures.
Salient Characteristics.
The buck towel shall be a colorfast, uniformly vat dyed grayish-green hand towel, finished 17 inches wide and 36 inches long. A minus tolerance of 1 inch and any plus tolerance will be permitted. The buck towel shall be fabricated from thoroughly cleaned cotton. The weight of the finished towels shall be a minimum of 2.6 lbs./dozen. The finished towel may have either selvage or hemmed sides or one of each. Hems shall be not less than 1/4 inch and the corners of hems shall be backstitched not less than 1/2 inch.
Performance. After 25 launderings, the weight loss shall not exceed 10% and there shall be no obvious signs of deterioration, i.e. frayed selvage, broken seams and ruptured fibers. A laundering is defined as washing in a commercially available domestic washing machine using the normal wash cycle. Wash and rinse with moderately hot (110-120oF) water using commercially available laundry soap or detergent. Tumble dry in a commercially available domestic dryer.
Workmanship. The towels shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair serviceability. Finished towels shall conform to the quality and grade of product established commercially for towels.
Unit. Each (EA). Each towel, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor Certification. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements.
Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. If the product covered by this document has been determined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to be under its jurisdiction, the offeror/contractor shall comply, and be responsible for compliance by its subcontractors/suppliers, with the requirements of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as amended and regulations promulgated thereunder. In addition, the offeror/contractor shall comply, and be responsible for compliance by its subcontractors/suppliers, with the requirements of all other applicable Federal, State, and local statutes, ordinances, and regulations.
