COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

TOWELS AND TOWELING, COTTON FOR GLASSWARE

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this

Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification DDD-T-501.

This commercial item description covers bleached cotton flat-woven towels (style A) and towelling (style B) to be used for drying glassware.

Salient characteristics:

The towels and towelling shall have a minimum weight of 5.0 oz/sq yd, and a minimum breaking strength of 50 lb in both warp and filling directions. A striped or checked design utilizing colored yarns is acceptable provided the yarns are colorfast to laundering,.

The side edges of the towels and towelling (except for any selvages) shall be hemmed to a minimum finished width of 16 inches. The ends of the towels (Style A) shall be hemmed to a minimum finished length of 30 inches. The rowelling (Style B) shall be put-up in bolts of 50 yards + 2-1/2 yd; not more than two pieces, minimum length 15 yd/piece.

Certification. The contractor shall certify the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.

Recovered materials.     The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.

Packaging, packing, and marking.              The towels and towelling shall be put-up and packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order.
